The Recovery Project Introduces Rock Steady Boxing for Parkinson’s Patients

The Recovery Project, a leading provider of progressive, effective neuro rehab therapies that improve the lives and functionality of patients with spinal cord and other neurological injuries, has launched Rock Steady Boxing, a new wellness program aimed at helping clients with Parkinson’s Disease improve their quality of life through a non-contact boxing based fitness curriculum. Polly Swingle, co-founder of The Recovery Project, made the announcement.

With the introduction of Rock Steady Boxing at its Livonia headquarters, The Recovery Project becomes the only physical therapy clinic in Michigan to offer the program. Parkinson’s Disease is a degenerative movement disorder that can deteriorate the motor skills, balance, speech and sensory function of afflicted patients. Rock Steady Boxing leverages exercises adapted from boxing drills to combat the degeneration of these critical functions in a non-contact exercise format by helping patients improve agility, speed, muscular endurance, accuracy, hand-eye coordination, footwork and overall strength.

“Numerous studies have shown rigorous exercises focused on gross motor movement, balance, core strength and rhythm can slow the progression of Parkinson’s Disease in patients,” said Swingle. “As we look to continually provide therapies supported by the latest evidence-based research, we saw an opportunity to incorporate Rock Steady Boxing into our growing list of wellness programs and offer our clients a new opportunity to experience life-changing results outside of their normal therapy regiment.”

Rock Steady Boxing classes will begin at The Recovery Project’s Livonia clinic the week of October 9. Classes will be offered three days a week in the clinic’s new gym, which is part of a 3,000-square-foot expansion at its Livonia headquarters. All participants must have a health and wellness screening conducted before participating, with The Recovery Project offering open screenings on Tuesday, September 26 from 9 a.m. until noon.

The program will roll out to The Recovery Project’s Lansing and Clinton Township locations in November and January respectively. For more information on dates, times and pricing, contact The Recovery Project at (855) 877-1944 or Livonia@rsbaffiliate.com.
