September 2025

Each September we recognize Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month.

Nearly 18,000 Americans acquire a spinal cord injury (SCI) each year and we have the privilege of working closely with hundreds of SCI survivors every day in our clinics and residential program. Helping improve the lives of those affected by a SCI will always hold special meaning to us because TRP was founded on the very premise of providing hope and the highest quality rehab possible for those experiencing a SCI. TRP's Co-Owner, Charlie Parkhill, was told he would never walk again after he suffered a SCI. However, he met his physical therapist, Polly Swingle, and together they implemented an intensive program that resulted in Charlie's ability to walk over 100 feet unassisted. This relationship blossomed from patient and therapist to business partners, and the rest is history!

Flu season is right around the corner. While seasonal influenza viruses are detected year-round in the United States, flu viruses typically circulate during the fall and winter during what’s known as the flu season. The exact timing and duration of flu seasons varies, but flu activity often begins to increase in October. Most of the time flu activity peaks between December and February, although significant activity can last as late as May. The first and most important step in preventing flu is to get a flu vaccine each year. Flu vaccine has been shown to reduce flu related illnesses and the risk of serious flu complications that can result in hospitalization or even death. CDC also recommends everyday preventive actions (like staying away from people who are sick (distancing), covering coughs and sneezes, frequent handwashing, and taking steps for cleaner air) to help slow the spread of germs that cause respiratory (nose, throat, and lungs) illnesses like flu.
