Our Story

Born from Adversity

After sustaining an incomplete spinal cord injury, Charlie Parkhill was told by doctors he would never regain meaningful function or walk again, and without the advent of a high-intensity protocol, that prognosis may well have come true.

Though these programs didn’t exist for injuries as extensive as Charlie’s at the time, his therapist Polly Swingle was determined to fill that void. She worked with Charlie to design and implement a high-intensity protocol that yielded incredible results — including the eventual ability for Charlie to walk more than 100 feet, unassisted.
Inspired by these results and driven to share the same hope with others in similar situations, the two founded The Recovery Project in 2003. Today, Polly’s programs continue to produce outstanding results and improved quality of life for the hundreds of people that come through the company’s doors each day.
