The Recovery Project Launches Adaptive Yoga Classes

We’ve launched adaptive yoga classes that are open to the public at our Livonia clinic every Monday and Wednesday at 1 p.m.

The adaptive yoga classes are uniquely designed for individuals with limited mobility issues, including severe arthritis, muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, head or spinal injuries, spina bifida, cerebral palsy, CVA, amputations or any other neuromuscular condition.

There is extensive scientific research that demonstrates the immense mental and physical benefits of practicing yoga with neuromuscular conditions. We have been employing adaptive yoga techniques in our customized therapy programs for years, but recently recognized the need and demand for a more regular class that is open to the public.

Each class is taught by a professional certified yoga instructor who is specially trained to adjust poses depending on each individual’s needs and abilities. Through customized sequencing and pose modifications, each class is designed to yield maximal physical, mental and energy benefits. Individuals can participate from a chair, from the mat, or somewhere in between.

The cost to participate is $15 per 60-minute session, or $135 for 10 classes. Classes take place at 11878 Hubbard Street, Livonia, Michigan 48150.
